Our Pastor
David Gravitt was born in Hall County, Georgia in 1951. After attending East Hall High School, and Gainesville College and receiving his B.S. in Psychology from UGA, David went into a career in industry in the
field of resource planning, computerization and plant start-ups. In 1975, he (finally, according to his mother!)
married his college sweetheart, Shirley Adams. After being in business for himself for several years, and
working as a youth minister at various United Methodist churches, David answered the call to ministry, sold
the business and entered Candler School of Theology where he graduated cum laude in 1994. Shirley continued
to pursue her career as a social worker, specializing in severely emotionally disturbed, severely behaviorally disordered children at ALPINE Psycho-Educational Center. Last year, they adopted David’s niece, Catlyn Gravitt. Cate just graduated from Dawson County High School with honors and will be attending North Georgia College
this fall.
Both David and Shirley celebrate their Native American heritage. David was instrumental in founding the North Georgia Conference Task Force (later to become a committee) on Native American Ministries. He has chaired
that committee and served on the SEJANAM Board for two quadriniums. He has also served for two quadriniums
on the conference Board of Church and Society and is now vice-chair of the conference Housing and Homeless Council. After completion of 30+ years at ALPINE, Shirley is currently working as a school social worker for
Dawson County Schools.

Psalm 23 / The LORD is my shepherd, I shall not want; he makes me lie down in green pastures. He leads me beside still waters; he restores my soul. He leads me in paths of righteousness for his name's sake. Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I fear no evil; for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff, they comfort me. Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of my enemies; thou anointest my head with oil, my cup overflows. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life; and I shall dwell in the house of the LORD for ever.

Ode to JoyFavorite Scripture:
Psalm 100 / Make a joyful noise unto the Lord, all ye lands. Serve the Lord with gladness: come before his presence with singing. Know ye that the Lord he is God: it is he that hath made us, and not we ourselves; we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture. Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise: be thankful unto him, and bless his name. For the Lord is good; his mercy is everlasting; and his truth endureth to all generations.
